Notes

"Dear" took correspondence law course, went to Louisiana to visit two
O'Brien cousins who had a fine library in St. Mary's Parish.

"Dear" was seven years older than "Monnie".

His father died when Dear was twelve years old. He supposedly died on
board ship, which is plausible since he was a steamboat captain.

Besides his sister Laura, Dear had six other siblings, all of whom died
presumably in infancy or early childhood. See Alfred Stevens for a
fuller accounting of siblings.
Dear served as the County Judge of November 2, 1880 to November 7, 1882.
He was just 21 when he began to serve.
Jack Stevens said that he recalled Dear being a bit of a genealogist and
having a framed diagram describing where his Stevens clan came from in
England. Laura Stevens Story ("Tootie") probably kept this diagram, but
her decendants have either died or drifted out of touch. (Last revised
